When you’re a young, you tend to like to get into edgy and controversial topics. I guess it’s part of the desire to make a difference in the world and challenge the status quo, to prove oneself, and make one’s mark. It’s also fun to test out your new knowledge and show everyone how much you’ve learned. A few years of pastoral ministry really helps iron out some of those wrinkles, as the ordinary day to day spiritual needs of a congregation eventually get the young minister’s priorities straightened up. But some controversial topics do need to be addressed from time to time, so it is not with a young priest’s zeal that I dive into this subject, but as a maturing priest I’ve found this is an issue that’s relevant for all who read the Bible… how historically accurate is the Bible?
