St. Barnabas’ Day

 (11 June)

Collect:
O LORD God Almighty, who did endue your holy Apostle Barnabas with singular gifts of the Holy Spirit: Leave us not, we beseech you, destitute of your manifold gifts, nor yet of grace to use them always to your honor and glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Readings:
Job 29:11-16; Psalm 112; Acts 11:22-30; John 15:12-16

Reflection:
Saint Barnabas, as described in Acts, was an active minister of the Gospel who was filled with the Holy Spirit.  He exhibited the sort of self-sacrificial love described in the Gospel, his ministry flourished before God like the man described in the Psalm, and his kindness to those in need and to St. Paul early in his ministry find their parallel in Job’s autobiography.  And so, today usually being near the Day of Pentecost, we pray that we also would see the same wonderful ministry and gift of the Spirit at work in our own midst.
